National Lottery Licence Competition In November 2005, the competition for the next National Lottery licence opened with the National Lottery Commission's Statement of Main Principles, outlining how the operator will be chosen. The new licence will be for 10 years, giving operators longer to recoup their investment and, in theory, meaning that more money will be available for good causes. It appears that the 10-year licence could be extended to 15 if successful. Providing operational standards are met, the license will go to the bidder who will generate the highest returns for good causes. The NCA supports this and will work to ensure that the arts continue to benefit from Lottery funding. It is expected that bids will be submitted in 2007 and a decision made in the same year.
