Arts funding system The Arts Councils in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland receive annual grant-in-aid funding from central government. They invest this in arts organisations within their region as revenue funding. The amount of money given to the Arts Councils from central government is reviewed every three years as part of the Chancellor's Spending Review. The Arts Councils also receive money from the National Lottery to distribute to arts organisations. The arts were one of the original 'good causes' when the National Lottery was established in 1993. In addition, many arts organisations are funded by charitable trusts and foundations, business sponsorship and private patronage.
