Dance Manifesto 2006

The NCA has produced a Dance Manifesto in partnership with Dance UK that sets out key priorities for the sector and aims to change the way that Government thinks about dance.

At an NCA advocacy meeting in September 2005, the NCA was given a clear mandate from the dance sector to bring its concerns together into a strong lobbying document. A process of extensive consultation with dancers and dance organisations followed, to ensure that the document produced spoke with the united voice of the whole dance industry.

The Dance Manifesto was presented to the Minister for Culture, the Rt Hon David Lammy MP, on July 10 by Darcey Bussell, Jonzi D and Arlene Phillips. It was launched on July 20, at City Hall, as part of Big Dance Week. Dance practitioners and professionals gathered alongside those from the wider arts and political sectors to celebrate the document.

The Dance Manifesto identifies four overarching ambitions for dance in the UK, stating that it should be:
