Campaigns Overview As the UK's only independent lobbying organisation representing all the arts, the NCA's campaigns remit is broad. Recognised in both government and the arts sector as an effective advocate, able to reach the people who matter, the NCA boasts a long history of changing policy at national and local levels. We place members at the heart of our campaigns work, using their concerns to lobby policy makers with a united voice for the arts. The NCA has excellent relationships with Ministers and officials in a wide range of government departments and with MPs and Peers. It uses these connections to influence policy and legislation through delegations, position papers, briefings and consultation responses. The NCA's campaigns work falls under five main areas. The NCA and its sister body, National Campaign for the Arts Research and Education (NCARE), have taken a lead on many initiatives to educate opinion formers, funders and the general public about the importance of creativity in education. The NCA has responded to policy consultations, taken delegations to ministers at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Department for Education and Skills, organised high-profile national conferences and undertaken acclaimed projects to highlight the value of creativity in education. The NCA has campaigned on areas including the National Lottery, Government funding streams and the Arts Councils across the UK to ensure that the arts sector is funded and supported in the most effective way. NCA manifestos, position papers and consultation responses explain how politicians can support the development of the arts sector, and various disciplines within it. The NCA scrutinises government policy and legislation to ensure that the interests of the arts sector are represented and taken into account. We have a long history of successfully lobbying MPs, Peers, Ministers and civil servants to change legislation and policy. The NCA works closely with local government, recognising their importance in arts funding and development. We lobby councillors and officials to ensure the importance of the arts is recognised on all agendas.
