Arts in education On 13 July 1999, the NCA took a delegation of arts practitioners to meet the Arts Minister, Alan Howarth, to discuss the arts in education. The discussion addressed the benefits of teaching the arts in schools and of using the arts in teaching methods, the findings of research into the arts in education and the marginal position of the arts in the education system at present. The need for professional artists to engage with the education system and for teachers and artists to be trained to work with art in education was stressed, as were the educational needs of artists preparing to work as professionals.
