Children and the arts On 27 July 2000, the NCA took a delegation of artists to meet the Arts Minister, Alan Howarth. The subject for discussion was children, young people and the arts and delegates raised concerns including: the need for arts practitioners to be able to develop their own artistic skills and learn how to develop them in children; the need for teachers and youth workers to develop artistic skills which they can use in working with young people; the lack of arts provision in schools, and the importance of the arts in the development of emotional literacy in the young.
