NCA delegations

The NCA has unique access to Government which it has developed by taking delegations to ministers. NCA delegations were established by Director, Victoria Todd, in 1999. They aim to develop Government awareness of the place of the arts in our national life and strengthen support for this. Delegations consist of arts practitioners, united by a particular cause (such as arts in education or equal opportunities) but representing the arts sector rather than individual interests. The meetings are an opportunity for politicians and artists to discuss issues affecting the arts and to increase mutual understanding.

The initial, pioneering, series of delegations took place in 1999 and 2000 and was hosted by the Arts Minister, Alan Howarth. The success of these delegations was such that further delegations have continued to be arranged and, indeed, sought by Government. They are an established and valuable NCA campaigning tool.
