Policy

The NCA seeks to influence policy in many areas, believing that by embedding the arts in our national life and expanding the remit of the arts, not only are the arts themselves expanded, but the people, places and sectors with which they engage are positively affected. Policy campaigns often involve formal submissions to Government and delegations of arts practitioners meeting Ministers and Government officials. The NCA holds meetings and corresponds with Ministers and officials and is a respected voice in Government discussions.

The NCA is both reactive and proactive in its work. It acts to protect the arts and to safeguard the existing structures that serve them. It also acts to promote the arts and to develop new ways in which the arts can be a positive influence in society, thinking creatively about how the arts can engage with non arts-based areas of our national life and campaigning to ensure that the arts are considered in Government policy wherever possible.
