Government - Department for Culture Media and Sport (DCMS) The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) is responsible for government policy on arts, sport, the national lottery, tourism, museums, galleries, broadcasting, film, music, press regulation and licensing and gambling. It is headed by the Rt Hon Andy Burnham MP, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, with Rt Hon Margaret Hodge MBE MP as the Minister for Culture, Creative Industries and Tourism, Rt Hon Gerry Sutcliffe MP as Minister for Sport, and Rt Hon Tessa Jowell MP as Minister for the Olympics working out of cabinet office The DCMS' primary aim for the arts is to maximise the contribution the arts sector makes to government policies, particularly: - Children and young people - Communities - The economy The DCMS also aims to broaden access to the arts, raise the standards of artistic and cultural education and make the standard of artistic activities world class.
