Government
Regardless of who is in power, lobbying government and
Opposition is essential for the arts sector as the majority of arts funding
in the
UK
derives from the public purse. Policy on the arts is set by the
UK
Houses of Parliament,
consisting of the House of Commons and House of
Lords. The central government department with overall responsibility for
the arts is the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). Arts policy
is also set by devolved administration through the Heritage Minister of the Welsh
Assembly Government and the Culture Department, the Scottish
Executive department of Arts and Culture, and the Northern Ireland
Executive department of Culture, Arts and Leisure.
