Government - Political Parties

Liberal Democrats

The Liberal Democrats' Arts Manifesto 2004 put forward an arts policy of supporting the arts for their own sake, widening access and lessening the role of central government in the arts.

General priorities:

- Value the arts for their own sake

- Ensure less state interference in the arts

Funding:

- End the freeze in the core ACE budget ensuring that increases in core funding are at least in line with inflation.

- Restore the independence of National Lottery funding.

Education:

- Axe centrally funded schemes such as Creative Partnerships.
