Baroness Bonham Carter

Jane Bonham Carter was educated at St Paul’s Girls’ School and University College London.

She was a producer at the BBC, working on Panorama and then Newsnight from 1988 – 1993. From there she went to Channel 4, where she was Programme Editor of A Week In Politics from 1993 – 1996.

She became the Liberal Democrat’s Director of Communications in 1996, a role she held through the 1997 election returning to a career in television in 1998.

She worked as an independent producer at Brook Lapping Productions until 2004, where she remains an associate.

In 2004 she was made a Life Peer, and became spokesperson on Broadcasting and the Arts.

She was a member of the House of Lords Select Committee on the BBC Charter Review 2005 – 2006, and a member of the House of Lords sub committee on Home Affairs 2004 -2005/2006 – 2007.

She is currently Co-Chair of the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Policy Committee on Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport.

Jane was a member of the Liberal Democrat Communications and Campaign Committee from 1998 – 2006; a council member of Britain in Europe from 1998 – 2005 and a member of the Referendum Campaign team 2004 – 2005.

She has been on the Advisory Commitee, Centre Forum (formerly Centre for Reform) since 1998, and RAPt (Rehabiliation for Addicted Prisoners Trust) since 1999 .
