ACE announced its new role as the Designated Competent Body for artists entering the UK under the Tier 1 Exceptional Talent route of the points based visa system. Following a written statement on Thursday, from immigration minister Damien Green, the home office has launched a consultation into employment related settlement, tier 5 workers and overseas domestic workers.

On Thursday, the commons Home Affairs committee published its first, of a series, of reports on the work of the UKBA. The report made several damning conclusions relating to the performance of UKBA, including criticism of the e-borders scheme.

The Migration Advisory Committee has launched its first full review of the UK labour market for highly skilled workers since 2008. The MAC welcomes evidence to support the following question

“In which occupation(s) or job title(s) skilled to National Qualifications Framework level 4 or above is there a shortage of labour that it would be sensible to fill using labour from outside the European Economic Area (EEA)”

The MAC will potentially recommend occupations and job titles are added to, and removed from, the Tier 2 shortage occupation list. For details of how to respond to this review click here

The Migration Advisory Committee has launched its first full review of the UK labour market for highly skilled workers since 2008.

As part of the ongoing changes to the points-based system of immigration, Parliament has announced changes to the Tier 1 category. 

On Thursday, 10 March, the House of Lords debated “the Government’s assessment of the points-based system introduced in November 2008 as it affects non-European Union artists, performers, academics and others intending to work in the United Kingdom”.

Following the Migration Advisory Council’s [MAC] release of their recommended ‘graduate level occupations’ to qualify under Tier 2, MAC have released their recommendation on jobs to be removed from the UK shortage occupation list.
