Richard was born in Cheshire and read Politics and Modern History at Manchester University. He worked in the aerospace industry and retired from Rolls-Royce, where he was Group Marketing Director, in 2002. He was a non-executive Director of a number of manufacturing companies, President of the Society of British Aerospace Companies, a Board Member of the FCO / DTI British Trade International (now UK Trade and Investment) and is actively involved with the Royal Aeronautical Society, the Anglo-Australian Cook Society and the London based business development “D Group”. Richard lived in the USA in the 1970s, and has travelled extensively. He has always had a keen interest in the arts, particularly opera, music and drama. He is also an avid rugby fan! Married with two daughters, Richard lives in London.
